Indie duo Tomode in search of dancefloor icebreakers on disco-tinged single ’Conversation Starter’

Striking a unique balance between uplifting disco and melancholic Scandinavian pop, Tomode’s new single ‘Conversation Starter’ sees the Stockholm-based duo pay homage to legendary disco giants ABBA and Chic.

”With Conversation Starter, we wanted to express that inescapably uncomfortable feeling of striking up a conversation with someone at a party, and it just not clicking. Hopelessly out of place on the dancefloor, just trying to say the right thing.” the duo explains.

‘Conversation Starter’ is the second excerpt from Tomode’s sophomore EP Riviera, scheduled for release later this year. Their previous single ’Out On The Dunes’ grabbed the attention of Ones To Watch, Youtube Music and Deezer and has streamed over 300 k across platforms since its release in June this year.

The new EP follows the success of their debut EP Synergy (2021), which secured the up-and-coming duo – consisting of Stockholm natives Carl Leandersson and Viktor Westerberg – a spot as an exciting and unique act on the indie scene.

Tomode’s genre-bending and catchy sound landed them nominations for Newcomer and Pop/Rock of the Year by Scandinavian music mag Gaffa in 2022 and has been compared to the likes of Parcels, Daft Punk and Phoenix.

The duo also featured as topliners on French house producer Antoine Chambe’s new electronic single “Forget About It” (Roy Music, March 2022), which has quickly racked up over 250 k streams across platforms.
